Youth Aging Out Of Foster Care: Alarming Statistics!
By age 26, only 3% to 4% of youth who’ve aged out earn a college degree. 1 in 5 will become homeless after 18. 1 in 4 will experience PTSD. Only 50% will secure a job by 24 and over 70% of females will become pregnant by 21. These devastating effects also have social and economic impacts on society. For every young person who ages out, it costs taxpayers an average of $300,000 in social service costs like: public assistance, incarceration and lost wages to a community over the person’s lifetime.
